Kajol
The ongoing Jallikattu unrest in Chennai affected the shoot of Kajol’s Tamil outing, Velai Illa Pattadhari 2 (VIP 2) that also stars South superstar Dhanush. On the first day of the protest itself, shooting for the Tamil film had to be cancelled due to the traffic snarls which resulted from the protesters’ march towards Marina Beach.
Kajol returned to Mumbai on Monday to take a break from the schedule and will apparently return to Chennai after the situation settles. Kajol’s spokesperson informs hitlist, “Shooting was called off for a day but the unit then continued filming later. Kajol, however, has taken a break because her mother-in-law (Veena Devgn) is unwell.”
Says a source close to the production, “Though the shoot is on, the unit has faced a tough time since they commenced filming on January 20. Given that the Tamil film fraternity (including those from VIP’s unit) extended its support to the sport (of bull taming), attention was divided between the film and the protest. It was supposed to be Kajol’s first day on the set, but she was told to return later.” The source adds that cast member Dhanush too had extended his support to the sport.
Soundarya Rajnikanth’s VIP 2, a sequel to Velraj’s 2014 Tamil film of the same name, marks Kajol’s return to Tamil cinema after around two decades. She had featured in Rajiv Menon’s Minsara Kanavu in 1997.
