In happier times: Veena Malik and Asad Khattak
Pakistani actress Veena Malik, who recently was granted divorce from businessman Asad Khattak, has claimed that her husband abused and assaulted her.
According to reports in Pakistani media, the actress, known in India for her stint in reality TV show ‘Bigg Boss 4’, decided to end her three-year-old marriage while Asad was on a trip to the US. Appearing on a television show — ARY News programme 11th Hour — in Pakistan on Monday she alleged that her husband had physically and mentally abused her.

The show’s host Waseem Badami had reportedly invited the estranged couple on his show in an attempt to reconcile the two, and had also called on Maulana Tariq Jameel to ‘facilitate’ the process.
Malik made the allegation after Asad revealed that he asks her for forgiveness “every single day”. Malik said that there were two things she could not forgive. She stated, “First, that he (Khattak) beat me; second, that he disrespected me… not once, but repeatedly.”
“If he is asking you for forgiveness, give him one chance,” the Maulana told Malik. “He is saying it before so many people, he should be given another chance.”
She asked the Maulana to obtain a written guarantee from her husband to which Khattak agreed. She said that though Asad had to seeking her forgiveness and wanting to reconcile, she wasn’t ready for it.
But then changed her stance and said she was ready to give him him another chance, but that it all had to be court approved.

The couple, who married in Dubai on December 25, 2013, have have two children together — Abram and Amal.
Veena’s counsel Ali Ahmed has confirmed the separation between her and Asad, saying that the family court issued the decree on January 31, 2017, after the actress filed for ‘Khula’ (divorce), The News International reported.
The court passed a decree in favour of Veena as Khattak failed to proceed with the case, Ahmed said, refusing to give any further details.
According to sources, Veena filed for the divorce after a rift with Khattak and his family over her return to showbiz, The News International said.
The actress has worked across the film and TV industry in Pakistan and India. In Bollywood, she has done two item songs as well, and Veena also dabbled in the Kannada film world “Dirty Picture: Silk Sakkath Maga”.
Based on his recent Twitter activity, it seems that Asad is keen on making the marriage work even now. He has been reaching out to Veena Malik on the social media platform.
